Indiana man sues food packagers over invention

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man who says he invented a microwavable plastic food container that heats food better says 2 of the nation's biggest food packagers stole his ideas.

Gary Hopkins of Scottsburg has filed a lawsuit in Scott Superior Court against Clorox Co. of Oakland, Calif., and Birds Eye of Rochester, N.Y. He is seeking unspecified damages.

Hopkins says he obtained seven patents and showed his containers to both companies. He says they signed confidentiality agreements but later introduced products using similar technology.

Both companies say the lawsuit is without merit.

Legal experts say Hopkins will have to prove that neither was developing a similar product on its own.
