LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For the first time in more than a decade, Insight Communications is about to get competition for the cable market in Louisville. Monday, AT&T launched its U-Verse television, telephone and internet service in the Louisville area.
The provider is hoping to gain a new customer base by attracting customers who are now subscribing to cable or satellite TV with low beginning rates and more features. AT&T is touting services like total home DVR, the capacity to record up to four channels at the same time and convenience features like the ability to set your DVR from your cell phone or office computer. But in this economy, for many consumers it all comes down to the pricing.
"I think we've got very competitive pricing," said Bryan Klamer of AT&T Kentucky. "We've got packages starting at as low as $49 and our package has a lot of features. That's something no other cable company has."
So what does Insight think of the new competition? In a statement, Jason Keller, a spokesperson for Kentucky Insight, said:
"Insight has been Louisville's reliable, technology leader for more than a decade and has been the fastest growing cable operator in the country three years running. One more competitor, particularly one with a long history of over promising and under delivering, certainly won't change that."
