LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Bullitt East High School football player who suffered a brain injury during a game is now out of the hospital.
17-year-old Jesse Bratcher was injured during a junior varsity game on August 24. Bratcher was taken to University Hospital after coming off the field dazed following a helmet-to-helmet hit. He underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
According to Eric Farris, attorney for the Bullitt County Schools, Bratcher is walking and talking. There is a chance that Bratcher may attend the Bullitt East's Friday pep rally and game against in county rival Bullitt Central.
"So if he's up to it he hopes to be there and I'm sure there will be a big cheer from the crowd," said Farris.
A fundraiser for Bratcher is going to be held Tuesday, September 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant on Outer Loop to help pay for medical expenses. 10% of the sales will go to Bratcher's fund.
