JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - A southern Indiana man is facing nearly two dozen felony charges for molesting children his own mother was babysitting.

For years, Grace Nevis ran a small daycare business out of her Sellersburg home, watching just a few children at a time. Now four of those children have come forward with serious accusations against Nevils’ son, 25-year-old Brandon Nevils.

"The molestation all occurred in the house where they were being babysat by the defendant's mother. He had easy access to them," said Brittany Blau, deputy prosecutor in Clark County.

One victim contacted Sellersburg Police in August telling them Brandon Nevils would wake her up from naps at Grace Nevils' home and lure her into his room or the bathroom and then touch her inappropriately.

"You would think that particularly since this was a home and there was an understanding with a few kids that the kids would be watched and supervised and taken care of and obviously that trust was betrayed by Mr. Nevils," Blau said.

Information from that victim helped investigators get in touch with three others, all who told similar stories. The alleged abuse happened between 1998 and 2004. The four victims are still minors.

"It is very hard for young victims to come forward and I really want to congratulate them on their courage, for them to come forward and tell their story," said Blau.

Police say the incidents took place from the time Nevils was 14 until he was 22. Nevils, who is facing 23 felony charges of child molesting, was bonded out of jail. He is now on home incarceration, being monitored by an ankle bracelet with a GPS device.

Nevils did not respond to WAVE 3's attempts to reach him at home.

"Obviously, it's awful. When you take your children to a daycare, you expect them to be taken care of and not have to worry about them being molested," Blau said.

One of the victims involved came forward in 2006 with accusations against Nevils, but prosecutors did not have enough to file charges. With additional information and allegations from the three other victims, officers were able to finally pursue Nevils on his behalf.

Nevils is charged with four Class A felonies. Under Indiana law, a conviction on a Class A felony charge carries a sentence of between 20 and 50 years.
