LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Southeastern Conference confirmed late Thursday afternoon that there are eligibility issues regarding University of Kentucky freshman guard John Wall.
According to ESPN.com, the university has been investigating Wall for several months because his AAU coach was a certified agent. Under NCAA rules, that equates to Wall accepting illegal benefits from an agent. Wall must repay any and all expenses the agent during that period.
The NCAA rule also stipulates that Wall could be withheld from at least 10% of his teams games as part of the punishment.
In a statement e-mail to media outlets Thursday night, DeWayne Peevy, UK Associate AD for Media Relations said:
"The University of Kentucky will not comment on the academic or eligibility status of any UK student-athlete. We will continue to respect the privacy of all our student-athletes in regards to personal information. All University of Kentucky student-athletes are considered eligible unless it is noted otherwise."
