LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) -An elderly couple has died in an accident on the Greenbelt Highway in southwest Jefferson County.
Louisville Metro Police are investigating the deadly crash that happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.
According to LMPD, a Buick was trying to turn left from the Greenbelt onto Ashby Lane when it was hit by a Ford Mustang. The passenger of the Buick died at the scene.
Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley identified the victim as 83 year-old Zelma Roberts of the 2000 block of Nocturne way in Louisville. Her husband Thomas H. Roberts, 86, was the driver of the Buick and he was taken to University Hospital where he died early Saturday morning.
Two others were taken to University Hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Alicia Smiley, a LMPD spokesperson, said officers from the traffic unit were trying to determine what factors, such as speed, led to the accident.
