LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There has been a break in a brutal murder that happened in Louisville almost a year ago. Two people are now under arrest for the death of 23-year-old Antonio Gonzalez, whose beaten and stabbed body was found stuffed in the trunk of his car by his girlfriend.
On November 29, 2008, Metro Police were called to the scene in south Louisville at Oleanda and Faywood. Police say Gonzalez had been beaten severely and stabbed multiple times.
Wednesday, 28-year-old Christian Cervantes and a 16-year-old juvenile are in jail charged with the murder. Police initially suspected gang involvement which is why the FBI was brought into the case.
"Some of these members may have had gang ties, but at this point it does not appear to be gang related activity," said Lt. Barry Wilkerson, commander of the LMPD Homicide Unit.
Wilkerson said the FBI was also helpful in tracking down witnesses in several states. According to Wilkerson, it was also key to gain the trust of the Hispanic families involved.
"Again, our goal is to solve homicides and bring families closure," said Wilkerson. "I think once they realized that, they're more apt to come forward and give information to you."
Metro Police say they are still looking for a few more people in their investigation. If you have any information, you can call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673).
