LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are looking for a man accused threatening his estranged wife and shooting her boyfriend. They say he is armed and dangerous, and need the public's help to get him off the street before he hurts someone else.

Detectives say Victor Cartagena Ortiz is dangerous. In early November of 2009, police received a call to Midnight Lane to help a man who had been shot.

"We believe his intention was to kill her companion that night," said LMPD Detective Anne Hogan.

Police say Ortiz violated a protective order to find his estranged wife before critically wounding her boyfriend.

"He had threatened to kill the victim," Hogan said. "He was shot multiple times at close range."

Detectives think Ortiz is still in the area.

"He is known to frequent southern Indiana," Hogan said.

Hogan says Ortiz owns a white, 2006 Scion with KY plate 052 FFZ. She says it's "not the boxy type of Scion. It's a sports couple."

If you see Ortiz, call 911 immediately. If you think you know where Ortiz may be staying, you're asked to call the anonymous crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673).
