LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Bullitt County woman was in court Wednesday to face charges in the shooting death of her husband at their home in the 100 block of South Shore Drive Tuesday evening.

Betty J. Harder, 44, pleaded not guilty to killing her husband, 53-year-old Ross A. Harder.

Shepherdsville Police responded to a call that there had been a shooting at the home around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19. When they entered the home, they found Ross Harder's body in the kitchen. He had been shot in the head.

Police recovered a gun and took Betty Harder to the police station for questioning. After an interview, she was charged with murder.

Shepherdsville Police Captain Ken Bernardi says the couple was not known to cause trouble.

"I don't know that I've ever been there," Bernardi said. "I do not know the folks and I did not recognize the lady form the picture in the booking. I know the neighborhood but it's a quiet, residential neighborhood - very little problems back there at all."

Harder is being held on a $1 million full cash bond. Judge Jennifer Porter also ordered that she undergo a mental evaluation.

Police say the couple has three children who are now staying with their grandparents.
