High currents delay Ohio River lock repairs

LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) - High tail waters and turbulence have slowed repairs to the Markland Locks and Dam.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the opening of the opening of 1,200-foot lock chamber remains undetermined and about 30 continuous days are needed to execute the onsite final phase of repair work.

The Louisville Repair Station anticipates rehanging the gate leaves this week provided river conditions allow.

Markland's auxiliary lock is handling all river traffic.

The lock failed on Sept. 27 when a gate door came off its hinge.
