Fatal crash causes morning rush hour slow down; I-64 reopened

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One person is dead after a single car crash on Interstate 64 eastbound between the Watterson Expressway and Hurstbourne Parkway that happened around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to Louisville Metro Police, the car flipped several times and the driver was ejected. The lone occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused rush-hour traffic to be rerouted while police were investigated the accident. Eastbound traffic on I-64 was being dirverted at the I-264 interchange. The closure of I-64 caused heavier than normal traffic on major surface streets in the area as drivers were forced to use alternate routes to get to work. I-64 was reopened to traffic by 8:40 a.m.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has not released the identity of the victim.
