JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) – Hundreds of local workers have voted on the contract between the Teamsters Local 89 and ACL the parent company of Jeffboat.

The Union voted Sunday afternoon, the result was overwhelming in favor of continuing the strike that started late Thursday night. The final total was 554 to18 to not approve the contract with ACL.

According to Fred Zuckerman, president of Teamsters Local 89, the main issue is one that's a hot topic across the country.

"The biggest thing is healthcare," says Zuckerman. "We can't let the companies that are now required under the law to provide health benefits to go backwards and continue to deteriorate the benefits."

Six hundred Jeffboat workers continue to picket outside the Jeffboat yards in Jeffersonville.
