Men stealing railroad tracks for scrap arrested

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Two scrap metal hunters are facing charges in Jeffersonville after police say they were caught stealing railroad tracks.

An off-duty officer was flagged down by a passerby who spotted two men stealing pieces of the tracks. The officer caught up to the men as they were driving away.

Police arrested 49-year-old Scott Schweitzer, and his nephew, 20-year-old Justin Hampton. Schweitzer told police he was stealing the tracks to sell as scrap metal.
