COVINGTON, KY. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate and Attorney General Jack Conway challenged his primary opponent Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo to return housing stipends he received from the state.
During a debate Friday in Covington sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Mongiardo said that he and his wife temporarily lived with his in-laws in 2008 and then again this winter.
The Kentucky Enquirer reported that Mongiardo wouldn't say whether he'll return any part of the $30,000 annual stipend, but he called Conway "desperate" and accused him of running a shoddy campaign.
Conway and Mongiardo lead the field of 5 Democrats vying for their party's nomination on May 18.
