Group wants to preserve downtown historic buildings

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Preservationists are keeping a close eye on the 100 block of Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Preservation Louisville and Louisville Historical League held a walking tour of "Whiskey Row" also known as the Iron Quarter Sunday. The group signed petitions because they don't want to see the seven buildings demolished.

The Iron Quarter buildings are owned by developer Todd Blue. Blue says he has submitted in writing to the city an emergency demolition request. He says the buildings are in eminent risk of collapsing.

The buildings were built in 1850.

Blue says he has not received a written response from the city about the emergency demolition request. He added that over the past several years he has spent much time and money preserving many other downtown buildings.
