LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Jefferson County jury has found Susan Lukjan guilty on all the charges she was facing in connection with an fire that destroyed her business in 2006.
Lukjan's business, Campbell's Gourmet Cottage, was destroyed by fire on August 16, 2006. In their closing, the Commonwealth argued that Lukjan was the last person to leave the business on the day of the fire and there was no sign that anyone broke in.
During her testimony on May 20, Lukjan said there were particular problems with the fixtures housing lighting for the building failing. On the day of the fire, Lukjan said there had been power problems at the business on Sherrin Avenue.
The jury returned their verdict after having the case for just over two hours. The trial will now proceed to the sentencing phase.
Lukjan was convicted on second degree arson, burning personal property to defraud insurer and fraudulent insurance acts over $300. She could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison.
