SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Preston Knowles says the domestic dispute with his girlfriend's stepfather was self defense. Authorities spoke to the University of Louisville senior guard May 25 about an argument with his 20-year-old girlfriend that started over a hairbrush and ended with Knowles and the girl's stepfather exchanging blows.
Knowles told police that the stepfather grabbed him on the shoulder. In defense, Knowles said he pushed back and made took some swings at the stepfather. In photos provided by the Bullitt County Sherriff's Office, the man, whose name has not been released, had cuts on his face and appeared to have a black eye.
Although Knowles claims he was protecting himself, Lt. Scotty McGaha says Knowles' girlfriend told him a different version of what happened during a phone conversation.
The dispute happened at a house off Bells Mill Road during a social gathering on May 23. Police are interviewing some of the 10 or more people who were witnesses. McGaha would not say if alcohol was involved since the investigation is ongoing.
No charges have been filed against Knowles, and McGaha says if there are any, it would probably be a misdemeanor assault charge. Possible sentences could be diversion, community service, or jail time.
