LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Seasonal allergies continue to cause misery in Kentuckiana and over the counter help may not be enough.
In our weekly check of "What's Going Around", Dr. Kathryn Schat with UofL and Family Geriatric Medicine says even people who never had allergy problems are making appointments to get help. The symptoms are runny nose, sore throat, nighttime cough and post nasal drip. Along with the classic itchy eyes.
Dr. Christina Breit with Dupont Internal Medicine, a Jewish Physician Group is treating allergy patients as well. She's prescribing over the counter antihistamines along with nasal steroids.
Dr. Breit is also treating acute sinusitis. Those symptoms include sinus pressure, headache, fatigue and congestion. She says you need an antibiotic when it gets to the sinusitis stage. Antihistamines and nasal steroids can help as well.
