HYDEN, KY (AP) - Federal mine safety officials have issued four citations against the owner of a Leslie County coal mine where a miner was killed in January.
The citations from the Mine Safety and Health Administration are in addition to those issued in March by the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing against Bledsoe Coal Co.
On Jan. 22, Travis Glenn Brock was killed in the Abner Branch Rider Mine when a 9-ton piece of rock fell on him as the corner of a roof pillar collapsed.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the federal citations were issued this week. They stated Bledsoe and its parent company - James River Coal of Richmond, Va. - failed to adequately inspect the mine and ignored "hazardous rib conditions."
