LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman under arrest by the Whitley County Kentucky Sheriff's Department died after she was struck by a car on I-75 Saturday night while trying to escape police custody.
The victim was identified as 31 year old Cassandra L. Byrd of Lexington.
Kentucky State Police in London are investigating the incident. A KSP news release indicates Ms. Byrd ran into the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Whitley County at 10:20-pm. They say she had been arrested by the Whitley County Sheriff's Department and was trying to escape custody when she was struck by a car.
The driver of the car, 37 year old Lawrence Jutzi of Florence, Kentucky was not injured. He was not charged in connection with the accident.,
