LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The three-year anniversary of 4-year-old Ivan Cano's disappearance is June 29th. Close to three years since his murder, Ivan's mother Rosalina, wanted to share the burial service held in Guatemala.
Cano was buried in Tapalapa, Guatemala on Aug. 17, 2007. Ivan's brother Francisco, who lives in Louisville, never made it to the funeral and says his mother wanted to bury her son near their family.
The video of the ceremony is 90 minutes. It shows a village full of family and friends supporting Rosalina as she buried her son.
Family spokesman Christopher 2X says Ivan's mother wanted people to understand her grief and what it meant to take her child to his final resting place.
"She asked me to take the video footage and share it with other individuals," Christopher 2X said.
"I think that's why we describe it as a portrait of pain," he added.
During the church service, the Catholic priest asked Rosalina to remember to keep her faith. He then asked God to keep Ivan in the angel's choir.
When he watched the video for the first time, he says he felt sadness because he knew it was the last time he was going to see his brother - even if it was only a video. Francisco says his mother has seen the video only once.
Francisco says it's tradition to drive the casket part of the time, as mourners walk village streets to the burial site offering prayers.
Before Ivan was buried above his great grandparents, a family friend thanked everyone for showing their support during their pain.
