LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are investigating after an officer-involved crash on Shelbyville Road. It happened around 5 a.m. at U.S. 60 and Urton Lane and involved an LMPD police cruiser and another vehicle.
According to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell, an off-duty officer in an unmarked police cruiser (who was not on a run) was eastbound in the left lane when a Ford pickup truck turning left out of a gas station parking lot to head west collided with the officer.
The officer and the driver of the pickup were hospitalized, but their condition was not immediately known.
A dog carrier from the police cruiser was among the debris, but it wasn't clear if there was an animal in the car at the time of the crash.
