LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Elizabethtown were closed for about six hours, after a crossover crash June 10.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. at the 101 mile marker, just south of the Joe Prather Highway. That's where a southbound semi carrying a load of steel pipes crossed the median and slammed into a northbound UPS tractor-trailer.
Neither driver was seriously injured, but one truck lost a load of steel pipes, blocking the northbound lanes.
According to KSP Trooper Bruce Reeves, the driver of the tractor-trailer hauling steel pipes - Kevin Patterson of Patterson Trucking - may have fallen asleep before crashing into the UPS semi.
Although the cab of Patterson's became separated from the load due to the severity of the crash, he was fortunate to have sustained only minor injuries.
Patterson and the driver of the UPS truck - who was not immediately identified - were both hospitalized.
