LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- Night racing returned to Churchill Downs with changes made according to track officials.

The season's first "Downs after Dark" attracted 25,000 fans Friday night. The event theme "Disco at the Downs" drew about 3,000 fewer fans than last year's first night-racing event.

Permanent lighting replaced temporary lighting installed for the 2009 test run "Downs after Dark". Churchill Downs spokesperson Darren Rogers described additional changes at the track.

"We planned for crowds equal to or even larger than last year, had additional points of sale in the racetrack Paddock area. Additional walk around vendors. The LMPD was on board on Central Avenue helping with traffic flow," Rogers said. "I think it was much better than a year ago and we think that recipe will continue over the next three Fridays."

The next "Downs after Dark" is themed "South Beach," followed by "Dress to Impress" and "Boots, Brew, and Barbecue" for the July 4th weekend.
