LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 3-year-old Louisville boy was rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital with a police escort after he was shot on June 15 in an apartment on Manslick Road.

According to Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson, the boy was upstairs of an apartment at 3648 Manslick Road near Shively when the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. The boy suffered one gunshot wound to either his arm or shoulder.

The 3-year-old's mother was home at the time of the shooting and is being questioned by police. Smiley said it is too early in the investigation to know whether the mom was in the same room as the child and who the .45 caliber gun belongs to.

Smiley said they are trying to determine how the boy was shot. At this time, Smiley did not know if the boy's mother will face charges.

There was a second adult inside the apartment. We are told that person is a family friend who arrived after the shooting. LMPD 4th Division detectives are trying to determine whether there were other people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

As of 11 p.m., the child was in surgery at Kosair. When taken to the hospital, the boy, whose name has not been released, was conscious and alert.
