LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It is an age old stereotype that officers can't seem to shake: cops loving doughnuts. This time around, officers are cashing in on that adage… hoping to make lots of 'dough' for a good cause.
At 6 am Friday morning, a police officer from LMPD climbed to the top of the Krispy Kreme store at 3000 Bardstown Road. An officer will be stationed atop the green roof from that point, up until 12:01 Sunday morning.
Despite the intense heat and humidity, officers will brace the elements to raise money for the Kentucky Special Olympics… and they admit, they may enjoy a few doughnuts in the process! Different officers will work in shifts to make sure someone is above the store at all times until the event ends.
Representatives from the Special Olympics will also be on hand for the fundraising campaign. The cops are hoping to raise at least $10,000 for this first ever Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
The Krispy Kreme store is open 24-hours, and employees will be collecting money inside the store, as will police officers outside, along with Special Olympics representatives.
