LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man is behind bars facing charges of eight counts of complicity to murder in cases dating back to 1996. On July 7, a Jefferson County Grand Jury returned indictments against 39-year-old Ricky Lewis Kelly.
Kelly, whose address in court documents is listed in the 2500 block of Grand Avenue, is facing complicity to murder charges in the deaths of the following people:
- Gale Duncan - April 11, 1996
- Deron Cole - July 24, 1996
- John Sanders -October 21, 1996
- Charles Lewis -July 1, 1998
- Blair Kidwell - July 3, 1998
- Craig Jones - July 8, 2005
- Laquantae Jackson - August 19, 2005
- Warren King - July 13, 2006
In addition to the complicity to murder charges, Kelly is charged with kidnapping, trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine) while in possession of a firearm, robbery, assault and being a persistent felony offender.
According to Lt. Barry Wilkerson, commander of the LMPD homicide unit, Kelly has in custody at Louisville Metro Corrections since 2006 on unrelated charges.
Wilkerson said they got a break in the unsolved homicides once Metro Police formed a Cold Case Squad in 2008. But Wilkerson would not go into details about the cases, possible motives, or how they were able to connect Kelly to all eight homicides.
Wilkerson said the department is in the process of notifying the families of all eight victims, but detectives are still interviewing and following leads. If you have any information that can help police, call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls to the Crime Tip Line are anonymous.
