LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police detectives are looking for two men they believe are involved in a robbery that sent an 80-year-old man to the hospital. Just before 5:30 p.m. on June 27, the elderly man who wanted to remain anonymous, said he was robbed and beaten at his car in the rear of the Highland Post Office on Highland Avenue near Baxter Avenue after dropping off his mail.

"I dropped the mail in the box and got ready to get in the car. By, the time I strapped myself in and started the car up, I realized a guy had gotten in beside me," said the elderly man. "He started to hit me and saying 'give me your money' and hit me and {saying} 'give me your money' just repeatedly."

The victim said he does recall yelling for help out the car door as loud as he could.

LMPD Sgt. Jamey Schwab said 5th Division detectives have surveillance video of the man they believe was involved in the assault. The video shows a man approaching the victim's car, then moments later walking away from it with the 80-year-old's body slumped out of the open drivers side door. The victim says he went unconscious.

"The next thing I remember after that, I was laying on the ground in the parking lot and I could hear somebody talking above my head," the victim remembered.

It has been nearly two weeks since the assault and he told us he is recovering quickly from various cuts, bruises a broken nose and rib.

"I can't imagine anybody doing that to another human being," he said.

On July 9, the victim visited the location where he was robbed. He went back to thank the people who found him, employees from a nearby tattoo shop.

"{I} just appreciate what they did," he said.

Police believe the man who assaulted the victim did not act alone. Schwab said there was a second man in a nearby car, which is described as a 2000 or 2001 Dodge Intrepid, either gray or silver in color. Schwab believes the two men they are looking for are in their 20s. If you have any information, call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls to the Crime Tip Line are anonymous.

According to Schwab, the men got away with hundreds of dollars. The elderly man is a veteran who is a member of AMVETS, said he was carrying so much cash because it was from a convention.
