LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former University of Louisville runner has a new ride. Wesley Korir picked up his 2010 Honda CRV Tuesday morning at Sam Swope Honda. The SUV is part of Korir's prize for winning the Los Angeles Marathon this past March.
He finished the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 19 seconds. It's the second time he won the race. Korir is the first back-to-back winner of the LA Marathon in eight years.
"It's amazing," Korir said. "It's a blessing to me. It's a very competitive race. A lot of big time people run there."
Dick Swope with the Sam Swope Auto Group says Korir's back to back wins are a major accomplishment.
"It's an amazing thing for someone to win the LA marathon," Swope said. "But for a young man from Louisville, KY to do it two years in a row and to set the course record is just a phenomenal experience for us to be a part of."
Swope says he's glad Korir made a point of having the car presented to him in his hometown. "Wesley loves Louisville and he wanted to take delivery of his car in Louisville and we were happy to be here so he could do that."
Korir says he's hoping to win the LA Marathon for a third time next year, so he has been training aggressively by running 120 miles a week.
