LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville-based non-profit group is partnered with the U.S. Military for Haiti relief efforts.
Volunteers prepared health and hygiene kits at the Edge Outreach headquarters off Arlington Avenue Saturday. The Edge Outreach team is scheduled to board the U.S.S.S Iwo Jima next Wednesday according to Edge Outreach Executive Director Mark Hogg. The ten members will stay on the ship for 10 days and are expected go ashore daily to teach lessons about health and hygiene.
Marcia Hogg is among those preparing for the trip.
"We hope to empower the people we teach to have better health in their families and communities," said Hogg of Edge Outreach. "When you don't have knowledge of how to use pure water, it is almost a mute point."
Mark Hogg agreed.
"At Edge, our goal is to train, equip and mobilize people in water sanitation health and hygiene sustainable initiatives," Hogg said. "Our work in Haiti is ongoing. We were there before the earthquake. We were there during (the earthquake) and we will be thereafter."
