WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says politically, the "chips will fall where they may" as New York Rep. Charles Rangel's congressional peers prepared to publicly discuss ethics charges against him.
Rangel was clinging to a job he's held in the House for 40 years.
Less than two hours before the House ethics committee was to convene to hear the case against Rangel, Pelosi was asked if she was worried about the potential election-year fallout to Democrats.
She responded: "The chips will have to fall where they may politically." She said that pursuing ethics cases against House members was "a serious responsibility that we have."
