Jean West appointed WAVE 3 News Sunrise Anchor

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Jean West has been appointed News Anchor of WAVE 3 News Sunrise said WAVE 3 News Director Kathy Hostetter on Tuesday.

"Jean's award winning reporting and journalistic integrity will be an excellent complement to our news team," said Hostetter. "Her leadership, experience and strong ties to our community will bring our viewers a fresh approach to our morning newscast."

"I am proud to be joining the WAVE 3 morning news team," said West. "As a mother who has raised children in this community, I want to help our viewers get all the news they need to know to get their day started in the best possible way."

West has spent the last two years operating Faceswest Productions as the writer, producer and host of a weekly 30-minute program highlighting medical breakthroughs and discoveries.  Prior to that she worked at WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky for 22 years as a news anchor and medical reporter where she received a Regional Emmy Award for her medical programming.

After graduating from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jean West went onto to receive a Master's Degree from the University of California-Davis.  She began her broadcast journalism career as an instructor, reporter and television anchor in Okinawa, Japan before returning to Baton Rouge where she was a reporter and morning news anchor at WAFB-TV.

Jean comes to WAVE 3 News as a veteran journalist recognized as the Most Admired Woman in Media by Today's Woman Magazine and the recipient of the prestigious Tower Award for Women Leaders in Media from Presentation Academy among many other honors.  Her community involvement in Kentuckiana spans several decades while serving on numerous committees and leadership boards for the University of Louisville, the Junior League and the Governor's Commission on Health.

Jean West will begin anchoring WAVE 3 News Sunrise along with Meteorologist Christie Dutton and Traffic Reporter Chris McGill on Monday, August 16, 2010.
