Music festival loses millions

LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) - A three-day music festival held in July at Churchill Downs was a money-loser for the track's parent company.

Churchill Downs Inc. reported Wednesday that the HullabaLOU Music Festival lost more than $5 million, about twice as much as it expected to lose on the debut event held at the company's flagship track.

Churchill Downs blamed the sweltering temperatures as well as a national decline in concert ticket sales for lower crowd turnout.

HullabaLOU drew more than 78,000 fans from 47 states, and Churchill Downs officials have said they're planning a similar event next summer.
