Man taken to hospital after lightning strike

LEXINGTON, KY (AP) - A Lexington man has been taken to a hospital after lightning struck near where he was standing.

WKYT-TV in Lexington quoted city fire department Maj. Ed Davis, who said the victim had no burn marks after the incident Sunday afternoon.

Family members of Herb Rice said Rice was in his back yard when the strike occurred.

Firefighters said some very tall trees Rice was standing near could have taken the hit and carried the charge through their roots.

Davis said it did not appear that Rice was seriously hurt.
