Lawyer: Baumia 'sorry' for accident that killed young boy

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The case is moving forward against a Louisville woman accused of driving drunk and killing an 11-year-old boy. Angela Baumia was back in court on August 17 and for the first time since the accident in June, we're hearing what Baumia is thinking and feeling about what happened.

Her lawyer talked with WAVE 3 outside the courtroom after her pre-trial conference. Defense lawyer Elgin Crull says his client is full of sorrow and very sad. She has an 11-year-old child herself.

Baumia is charged with murder, drunk driving, and running a stop sign in connection with the death of 11-year-old Dylan Geitgey. On June 26, Louisville Metro Police say Baumia drove drunk on Shenandoah Drive in Louisville's east end when she hit and killed the boy with her car.

"She is extremely sorry about the accident and would like to express that to the family, but she's been ordered not to talk to them," said Crull.

Prosecutor Leland Hulbert said they're planning on offering a plea deal next week after talking with the Geitgey family. It will be up to the defense team on whether to accept it or move forward to trial.

Baumia has pleaded not guilty and is in jail on a $100,000 cash bond. A trial date is set for January.
