LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Politicians and state leaders gathered in Louisville Thursday morning for the Kentucky Farm Bureau's 47th Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast followed by an auction for a country ham. The price for this year's ham set a new record: $1.6 million.
Republic Bank and Dr. Mark Lynn & Associates put up $800,000 to claim the ham. The money will be donated to charity.
Republic Bank has been among the winning bids for several years. In 2008, the ham was sold to Republic Bank for $200,000. In 2009, Republic split the ham with the Southerland Foundation for $650,000 each.
