Police searching for suspect after shooting

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are looking for a suspect after a drive-by shooting in the city's west end. It happened about 10:45 a.m. at 22nd and Griffiths Avenue in the city's west end.

The suspects were believed to be in a silver Chrysler or Monte Carlo. One suspect got out of the car and police were chasing him near 22nd and Rowan.

Western Middle School was briefly put in lockdown mode around 11 a.m. after a witness reported seeing the suspect being dropped off nearby. That turned out to be false.

"Also, there was a situation, we believe, where one of the suspects was let off by Western Middle School," said LMPD police spokesman Dwight Mitchell. "Subsequently we found that no one ever entered into the school. The school was never in danger in terms of the individual getting in there. Our investigation continues to unfold."

Police are looking for a black male in his 20s wearing a white shirt on foot, and another black male in a silver vehicle.

The victim had a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to University Hospital. No word yet on his condition.
