Jury to start over again in college fraud trial

LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) — A Kentucky jury will restart deliberations over charges against Illinois man at the center of an alleged multimillion dollar fraud conspiracy involving two universities.

Thomas Schroeder of Port Byron, IL, faces charges of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to impede and impact the Internal Revenue Service.

One juror was released on Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Charles R. Simpson III and an alternate juror will be brought in on Tuesday to start deliberations again, the Courier-Journal reported.

Federal prosecutors allege that Schroeder and former University of Louisville education dean Robert Felner schemed together for years to bilk $2.3 million from the Louisville university, the University of Rhode Island and the Rock Island County Council on Addictions.
