LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A program to help students at Jefferson Community and Technical College is getting a financial boost. On Sept. 8, Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY 3rd) handed over a big check for $288,282.

The money will go to keep the Student Support Services Program (SSSP) going. The program helps low income, first generation college students overcome some of the barriers to getting their degree. It offers tutoring, counseling, and help with applying for financial aid and scholarships.

"Right now, following one of the most serious economic declines in history, it is more important than ever that we do not leave anyone behind during our economic recovery," Yarmuth said.

JCTC anticipates the program will continue to get federal funding from the Department of Education for at least another 4 years.
