INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Democrats who narrowly control the Indiana House say they will make job creation and avoiding more budget cuts for schools their top priorities for the coming year.
Democratic House Speaker Patrick Bauer of South Bend also said Friday that his caucus wouldn't seek any tax increases to help keep the state government's budget balanced.
Bauer says his party wants to provide a tax credit to new employers and expand incentives to help small businesses.
House Republican leaders say they also would make job creation a top priority in the next legislative session and will oppose tax increases.
Democrats control the Indiana House 52-48 now, but the chamber is up for grabs in the November election.
