LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- The black boxes from the UPS plane that crashed in Dubai are now in the United States for analysis.
The director general of the United Arab Emirates General Civil Aviation Authority said the flight data recorders were sent to a U.S. lab last week. The GCAA is leading the investigation into the crash with help from the National Transportation Safety Board.
Investigators are hoping the devices provide clues into what caused smoke to fill the cockpit shortly after the plane departed September 3. The plane was headed to a UPS hub in Cologne, Germany.
Crew members Doug Lampe of Louisville and Matthew Bell of Florida died in the crash. Funeral arrangements for Lampe are still pending.
