LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Students at Hazlewood Elementary got a rocking lesson Wednesday in the fight against childhood obesity when the "Jump with Jill" show made a stop at their school.
Jill Jayne and her team travel all over the country with their rock and roll show that promotes healthy eating and exercise.
The performance is part of Wellness Week in the Bluegrass. When it comes to fitness, nutrition, and kids, Rockstar Nutritionist Jill Jayne doesn't miss a beat.
"Childhood obesity is much bigger than being overweight," Jayne said. "It's about kids being unmotivated; it's about a lot of things: lower fitness levels, cholesterol, blood pressure, and lots of other implications for kids being overweight."
About 17% of kids and teens are obese across the country. A recent study ranks Kentucky as one of 9 most obese states in the country.
Principal Tom Peterson was excited to welcome the show to his school and plans to keep the message going long after the speakers and props have gone.
"At school we want to make sure we're exercising as much as possible," Peterson said. "Often times kids don't get the amount of exercise they need."
About 100,000 students have now seen this show across the country.
