Motion to move trial for hit-and-run that killed a toddler denied

GLASGOW, Ky. (AP) - A judge won't move the trial of a Kentucky woman charged with leaving the scene of an accident in which a toddler died.

Barren Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton ruled this week that 38-year-old Lori A. Ikner would be tried in Glasgow. Ikner is also charged with failure to render aid in an accident last year that killed 2-year-old Shayla Marie Wooten.

The girl died when a white van struck her as she followed her father onto a highway where he was checking the mail.

Police say a witness led them to Ikner, but she has denied being the driver.

Ikner's attorneys had argued that local media coverage prejudiced the case.

But the Glasgow Daily Times reports Patton said he was confident a jury could be seated in Barren County.
