LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- Kentuckiana hospitals are joining Edge Outreach in the fight to provide clean drinking water to earthquake victims in Haiti. Edge Outreach is an organization that designs, builds and supplies water systems to countries where clean water is in short supply.
The group has been collecting shoes at area businesses to raise money for their programs, including a collection barrel at WAVE 3 News. Now local hospitals are pitching in.
"What we do," said Dee Dee Hurt of Edge Outreach "is collect used and new shoes, they have to be in condition where the upper parts are still in tact with the lower part. But they can be worn, they don't have to be in perfect condition. We in turn sell those shoes to an exporter who gives us about 60 cents on the pound."
On October 2 you can take your shoes to any of the hospitals in the area, and deposit them during a community wide shoe donation drive. Both Metro Louisville and southern Indiana health care providers are partners in support of this event.
