Louisville hosting Coffee Party convention

LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) - There's a political convention going on in Kentucky where the attendees are known for the hot beverage they like to drink.

And although Kentucky is the home of nationally recognized tea party Senate candidate Rand Paul, these folks are hefting hearty mugs, not dainty china teacups.

They call themselves the coffee party, and they were founded by Maryland-based documentary filmmaker Annabel Park.

She started the movement with a Facebook page in January 2009 when she decided she didn't like what she saw as the divisiveness of the tea party.

From Friday through Sunday, hundreds of members of the coffee party are meeting at the Galt House in Louisville. One of the biggest events scheduled is a round-table discussion featuring Park as well as tea party organizer Amy Kremer.
