LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- Kentuckiana hospitals are joining the fight to provide clean drinking water to those in developing countries around the world.
EDGE Outreach is an organization that designs, builds and supplies water systems to countries where clean water is in short supply. The group, along with 12 health care providers, and Shoeman Water Projects has been collecting shoes, both new and old, at 15 locations throughout Kentuckiana.
"We're collecting shoes," said Lacey Guthrie of EDGE Outreach, "to export to developing countries. We sell them to vendors at a very low cost and all the profit we make goes toward EDGE Outreach water projects."
Organizers hoped to collect about 100,000 pairs of shoes. Money raised from the resold shoes will help provide clean drinking water to those in countries like Haiti, Kenya, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.
