PERSONAL: Heiner is married to wife, Sheila. They have four children and 2 grandchildren.

EDUCATION:  University of Louisville  Undergraduate and Graduate school

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Heiner has represented district 19 on the Metro Council for seven years.

THE 2010 RACE:  Heiner won the Republican nomination in the May primary over Chris Theineman:  33,198 to 14,037.  

ON THE ISSUES:  Heiner recently made the Jefferson County Schools student assignment plan an issue in the mayor's race, saying he thinks it should be scrapped because it has been ineffective in improving education. He says he supports merit pay for teachers.

Heiner supports the Ohio River Bridges project but strongly opposes bridge tolls of $3 one-way on the new bridges. "This would represent one of Louisville's largest tax increases and I will not support this rate." 

He opposes any tolls on existing bridges.
