LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after police say he stole a car with an 8-month-old infant inside.

According to police, the child's babysitter left the child inside the car with the keys in the ignition while she was inside a convenience store in the 7900 block of Bardstown Road around 1 a.m.

Police later received an anonymous call around 2:30 a.m. from a pay phone saying the car was located at a convenience store on Six Mile Lane in Jeffersontown. That's where they found the car.

Police think the call may have actually come from the person who stole the car.  Police rushed to the scene to discover both the car and the baby had been abandoned.

"The child was not harmed," LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.

The 8-month-old was then returned to the babysitter.

About 90 minutes later, around 4 a.m., police arrested 36-year-old Shoun Balevre in front of a store in the 4600 block of Taylorsville Road.  Police say he was walking in that area when they discovered him, after they saw his image on surveillance video.

He now faces preliminary charges of kidnapping and wanton endangerment.

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office is determining if the babysitter will face any charges.
