Babysitter released from jail after Tuesday arrest

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A babysitter is out of jail after police arrested her Tuesday evening. Twenty-two-year-old Courtney Morgan is charged with wanton endangerment after leaving an infant in a car alone early Monday morning.

We were expecting Morgan to be in jail court Wednesday morning, but she was released from jail overnight on her own recognizance. That means she didn't pay any bail. Instead, she promised she'll appear in court to answer to the charge.

The wanton endangerment charge is for what happened just before 1 a.m. on Oct. 4. That's when she pulled into a Circle K on Bardstown Road and right up to the pump. Police say when her debit card wouldn't work, she went inside to pay and left the 8-month-old she was babysitting alone in the car.

Officers say that was long enough for a man to steal the car with the infant inside.

The infant wasn't hurt, and police arrested 36-year-old Shoun Balevere. He's charged with stealing the car and later abandoning it and the baby at another gas station, and remains jailed on theft and kidnapping charges.

Morgan's next court date was set for Oct. 8.
