LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Federal regulators said they're still uncovering hundreds of serious violations at mines in more than a dozen states, including Kentucky.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration said inspectors issued nearly 600 citations at 30 problem mines during September. The targeted inspections resulted in 170 citations against mines in Kentucky, including mines controlled by Massey Energy.
Massey Energy Company made national news when 29 miners died in an explosion at their Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia.
